ARE YOU WEARING THE RIGHT SPORTS BRA?

October 2, 2009 by cozysblog

Every woman, regardless of her breast size, should have a sports bra as a part of her fitness wardrobe. Not only do these specifically designed bras offer better support and more comfort than a regular bra, they also help minimize movement during workouts. Exercising in the wrong bra can lead to more than discomfort. A numbers of issues, including tension in the arms and shoulders and restricted breathing, can occur if the band is too tight.

A woman’s breast are composed primarily of adipose (fatty) tissue, mammary glands, connective tissue, and the Cooper’s ligament, which keeps the breast firm and prevents sagging. Because the underlying chest muscles do not support breast tissue, exercising in anything other than a well-fitted sports bra can stretch the Cooper’s ligament, leading to greater sagging and even pain during exercise.

Believe it or not, just any old sports bra won’t supply the support one needs to prevent sagging, stretching or pain related to exercise. One style certainly doesn’t fit all. The sports bras on the market, to date, certainly don’t fit most.

Studies have shown that between 70% and 80% of women are wearing the wrong size sports bra, and therefore, they may not be getting the benefits of support and comfort from their fitness wardrobe, like THE COZY SPORTS BRA provides.

Finding the right sports bra can be a daunting task when there are hundreds of styles from which to choose! Don’t worry; I’ve done the homework when I invented THE COZY SPORTS BRA.

The compression-style sports bra of THE COZY SPORTS BRA, encapsulates each breast and compresses the breast tissue against the chest. This style is ideal for women with medium to large breasts.

Some construction details to look for are moisture-wicking fabrics, minimal seams, wide straps that do not dig into shoulders and a snug fit around the rib cage, allowing for minimal movement, no bulging from the top or sides and the fabric does not ‘gather’ in the cup, causing chafing during activity — a la THE COZY SPORTS BRA.

In conclusion, today the sports bra is an integral part of every woman’s workout wardrobe. Finding the right sports bra can take time. Once you find one that is perfect for you, like THE COZY SPORTS BRA, you will be amazed how much better you will feel while exercising!

Ladies, here’s to comfort, support and great workouts with THE COZY SPORTS BRA!

A Pinch of Cancer: Can Wearing a Bra Kill You?

A Pinch of Cancer: Can Wearing a Bra Kill You?
by William Thomas

If you didn’t burn yours in the ‘Sixties, you might want to put it away now. “Bras cause breast cancer. It’s open and shut,” says medical researcher Syd Singer.

The Singers became breast cancer sleuths in 1991. On the day Soma discovered a lump in her breast, the husband-wife team was studying the effects of Western medicine on Fijians. In the shower, Syd noticed that Soma’s shoulders and breasts were outlined by dark red grooves. He remembered a puzzled Fijian woman asking his wife about her brassiere:

“Doesn’t it feel tight?”

“You get used to it,” Soma had replied.
Could bras be constricting breast tissue, Syd wondered, hampering lymph drainage and causing degeneration?

After 15 or 20 years of bra-constricted lymph drainage, cancer can result.

Looking at other cultures, they didn’t find peasant women wearing push-up bras. Instead, they discovered that the Maoris of New Zealand integrated into white culture have the same rate of breast cancer, while Australia’s marginalized aboriginals have virtually no breast cancer. The same trend held for “Westernized” Japanese, Fijians and other bra-converted cultures.

In Dressed To Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras, the researchers also observed that just before a woman begins her period, estrogen floods her system, causing her breasts to swell. If she continues wearing the same bra size, life-saving lymphatics will be even more tightly squished. Had they found the “estrogen link” to breast cancer?

Even worse, a young woman’s coming of age is often “marked” by her first bra. Like the ancient Chinese practice of foot-binding, “breast-binding” at puberty can eventually lead to severe medical complications.
Could bras be the “missing link” in a growing epidemic of breast cancer? Beginning in May, 1991, Soma and Syd Singer’s 30-month “Bra and Breast Cancer” study interviewed some 4,000 women in five major US cities. All were Caucasian of mostly “medium income” ranging in age from 30 to 79. Half had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Almost all of the women interviewed were unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts. Women who chose a bra for appearance, ignoring soreness and swelling, had twice the rate of breast cancer of those who did not.

But the most startling statistic was that three out of four women who wore their daytime bras to sleep contracted breast cancer. So did one out seven women strapped into a bra more than 12 hours a day.

“Don’t sleep in your bra!” Syd Singer pleads. “Women who want to avoid breast cancer should wear a bra for the shortest period of time possible — certainly for less than 12 hours daily.”

Syd Singer says that establishment censorship of the bra-breast cancer connection is killing women. Pointing to the biggest commonality among breast cancer patients, he’s emphatic that it’s bra-squeezed lymphatics.

At the first frightening sign of a lump, an angry Syd Singer says, “women should take their bras off before they take their breasts off.” Why wait, when you can liberate your lymphatics now.
IF YOU MUST WEAR A BRA:

Make sure you can slip two fingers under the shoulder-straps and side-panels. Don’t wear this disastrous device to sleep. Take it off at home. Massage your breasts every time you remove your bra. Sing your lymphatics into health — or at least breathe deeply.

Ensure Your Best Breat

See your health care provider about a breast change when you have:

- A lump in or near your breast or under your arm.
- Thick or firm tissue in or near your breast or under your arm.
- Nipple discharge or tenderness.
- A nipple pulled back (inverted) into the breast.
- Itching or skin changes such as redness, scales, dimples or puckers.
- A change in breast size or shape.

If you notice a lump in one breast, check the other breast.  If both breasts feel the same, it may be normal.  You should still see your health care provider for a clinical breast exam to see if more tests are needed.

What Is A Skin Tag

May 13, 2008 by cozysblog

What is a skin tag?

A skin tag is a common, acquired benign skin growth that looks like a small piece of hanging skin. They typically occur in characteristic locations including the underarms, and under the breasts (especially where underwire bras rub directly beneath the breasts

Where do skin tags occur?

Favorite areas for tags are the armpits, upper chest (particularly under the female breasts), and groin folds. Tags are typically thought to occur in characteristic locations where skin rubs against clothing.

Who tends to get skin tags?

More often they arise in adulthood. They are much more common in middle age and they tend to increase in prevalence up to age 60. Since they are thought to arise more readily in areas of skin friction or rubbing, tags are also more common in overweight people.

Is a skin tag a tumor?

Skin tags are a type of growth or tumor, albeit a completely benign and harmless one, and not found to have potential to become cancerous if left untreated.

What problems do skin tags cause?

These tiny skin growths generally cause no symptoms unless they are repeatedly irritated. Cosmetic removal for unsightly appearance is perhaps the most common reason they are removed. Occasionally, a tag may require removal because it has become irritated and red from bleeding (hemorrhage) or black from twisting and dying of the skin tissue (necrosis). Sometimes they may become snagged by clothing,  causing pain or discomfort.

How Are Skin Tags Treated?

Treatments include freezing, tying off with a thread or suture, or cutting off.

Do skin tags need to be sent for pathology?

Most typical small skin tags may be removed without sending tissue for microscopic examination.

Why Should We Perspire?

April 2, 2008 by cozysblog

We perspire to maintain to keep the temperature of our internal thermostat set to an average, normal temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Our bodies come fully equipped with a temperature center in the brain, which consists of a control center, a heating center, and a cooling center. Our bodies use approximately 2,500 calories of our daily intake of calorie-laden food to fuel the body. This process, known as oxidation, burns the calories, producing enough heat to bring 25 quarts of water to the boiling point. Obviously, our bodies cannot tolerate this heat, which causes the temperature of the blood to rise dramatically, and the cooling center to springs into action.

The cooling center slows the calorie burning process, and dilates, or opens, the blood vessels in the skin to release the excess heat, and the fluid known as perspiration. The release of this fluid cleanses the body, as it pours through our pores, which consist of millions of tiny openings in the skin. Perspiration emerges on the surface of the skin in the form of tiny, microscopic droplets, which quickly evaporate, and cool the body to its normal temperature.

Evaporation of perspiration on humid days slows, and requires the assistance of manmade inventions, such as fans and air conditioners, to carry away the moist air, so our perspiration evaporates, and so our internal thermostat returns to it’s normal setting of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Apparently, our cooling center is not self-sufficient!

But there’s more to it than just cooling your body temperature through perspiration — another function of the sweat glands in your armpits is to excrete toxins from your body. That’s why sweating is an important part of maintaining optimum physical health. You have to give your body a chance to get rid of various toxins through a variety of metabolic processes. Those include urination, passing fecal matter, exhaling carbon dioxide and other toxins through the lungs, and, of course, eliminating toxins through the skin. The skin, remember, is your body’s largest organ.
Your armpits, then, actually have an important health function in getting rid of toxins. That’s why you need to keep them open and unclogged by deodorant products.

To put in simply: SWEATING IS GOOD FOR YOU!!!
